So you know that feeling when everyone else gets to eat all the "good food" at a restaurant, but you're staying the course of your nutritional plan and sticking to lower carbs? Sure you do! Or, maybe not... either way I want to show you a few ways you can go low carb while you're out and about with friends in this article! Your first option is a burger bowl! What's that you ask? Many places offer a low carb, no bun option on burgers. This was from my last trip to Five Guys Burgers and Fries.
It was absolutely awesome! You get the bacon, cheese, trimmings and condiments (BBQ sauce is NOT low carb) without the bun and fries. You get to be a part and not feel completely left out of the fun! Not a burger fan? That's ok. The other options may fit you better! Maybe you have friends that LOVE a buffet line... what are you to do? Load up on protein of course! Most buffets will have some sort of meat kitchen with steaks and such... dig in here for the majority of your meal along with a salad and some steamed veggies. Voila! Low carb in the buffet line, however, this isn't full rein to go overboard on portions. Keep it sensible and if you're in question use a food calculator. I've even seen some people go so far as to bring their own food scale to the restaurant to make sure they stayed on track.
Maybe you're more of the Chipotle or Moe's Southwest type person, or even the occassional Mexican restaurant is your flavor. You have the option to go mostly meat and fats in a Mexican restaurant with some steak and exchange your beans and rice with guacamole and pico de gallo, or you can get the salad option at any of the above. Keep it low by sticking to no tostada or chips of any kind. So the taco salad you're eyeing... no taco bowl, it won't fit your macros! You CAN have the sour cream, pico, guacamole, and salsa.
